The blade cover (blade guard) is the protection that covers the non-cutting edge of the slicer blade, leaving exposed only the portion of edge needed for slicing. It is a safety component: it closes off the blade area and reduces the risk of accidental contact with the sharp zone during cleaning, disassembly and sharpening.
